Safety: CRC, CATT, RIS, HCSP
Adult Changeroom Supervisor (Team Mom): CRC, RIS, CATT
- Register as a volunteer on TeamSnap HERE.
- Criminal Record Check – valid for three (3) years. As part of our risk management process we require that all team rostered personnel and non rostered volunteers, 18 years and older, who have contact with children undergo a criminal background check. This CRC must be completed and submitted to the Director of Risk & Safety prior to the start of the hockey season.
The Criminal Record Check is free through the Ministry of Justice, and good for three seasons expiring on July 31st. Use the following link and access code to complete:https://justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck
ACCESS CODE: VBQDP4LYHL
Important notes: You will need to have verified your BC Services card to complete the CRC; this may require you to upload a photo or video, and have had it manually reviewed and verified before you can complete this request. You may need to do this on your mobile phone with the BC Services app. Please do not use the option to "Share" an existing check, but instead be sure to request a new check. At the end, please note the Case ID provided and email it to safety@vfiha.com. This will act as proof of submission until the final clearance letter comes in.
- Respect in Sport (RIS): You also need to complete the Respect in Sport program for Activity Leaders (note that there is a parent module here as well, which cannot be used towards coach/team volunteer certification). RIS is an on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches and sport leaders in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The on-line course curriculum is broken into six (6), 30-minute modules and includes audio/visual presentations, quizzes and printable handouts. Another beneficial feature of the program is that it does not need to be done all at once; it can be completed at your leisure. If prompted, please select Vancouver Female IHA. Once complete, submit your receipt for reimbursement — please note that reimbursement will be made after December 1st and only when all credentials are in place and you are rostered to a team. Respect In Sport can be found HERE. At the end, please submit your certificate to safety@vfiha.com.
- Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT): CATT provides up-to-date concussion education for parents and coaches. It includes video lessons and resources to effectively prevent, recognize and manage a player's recovery. The program was developed by the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit and endorsed by The Province of British Columbia, Provincial Health Services Authority and Child Health BC. For more information, please visit the website at cattonline.com.
BC Hockey's Concussion Awareness course must be completed HERE (be sure you're completing the course for Coaches, not the one for Parents.) At the end, send the certificate for verification to safety@vfiha.com.
- Hockey Canada Safety Program (HCSP): You will need to complete the Hockey Canada Safety Program certification. The 2023/24 course is now available at HCSP Course . Once complete, notify the Director of Risk and Safety at safety@vfiha.com and submit your receipt to https://www.vancouvergirlshockey.com/reimbursement-requests/ — please note that reimbursements are processed after December 1st when teams are formed, and will be made only when all credentials are in place.
Only once all of the above have been completed, the Registrar will be notified to roster you to a team. Please note that reimbursement will be made after December 1st and only when all credentials are in place and you are rostered to a team.
We also encourage older Angels to volunteer in the younger divisions. There is more information at this link: On Ice Helpers. You can enquire more information from the Director of Safety.
All team officials must complete the Concussion Awareness Training Tool certification.
