The Vancouver Angels Midget C1 team took home the bronze medal after an exciting finale from Powell River’s 4th Annual Female Midget Tournament on December 2nd to 4th, 2016.

After playing a grueling schedule of five round-robin games within 48 hours, they played their sixth game – the bronze medal game – on Sunday vs. Victoria.

The Angels led 1-0 after the first period, but Victoria scored to tie it with just over one minute left in the game.  They headed to a five-minute sudden death 3-on-3 overtime in which Victoria took a penalty after just 12 seconds, but the Angels couldn’t score on the 4-on-3 powerplay.

A shootout followed, which needed 12 rounds as both teams’ goalies wouldn’t allow a single goal. The Angels’ Justine Ellis finally ended it as she froze the goalie on a deke to her backhand and scored.  A bench-clearing celebration followed in what was a dramatic end to a thrilling and tiring weekend.

Congrats to everyone!
