Officiating Clinics for 2012-2013 Hockey Season
Stay tuned for the 2012/2013 pre-season clinics dates due in May/June 2012.
The clinics for the 2012-2013 hockey season will begin in September.
Vancouver Giants 7 January 2012 Game
Sandra Lowe organized an evening out for our officials to attend the Vancouver Giants game on January 7th, 2012. Before the game we met with the game officials (Trevor Hanson, referee, Brett Montsion, referee, Tim Digby, linesman, and Ryan Gibbons, linesman) who spoke about their careers as officials and answered questions from our officials. They were impressed with the number of female officials in attendance and encouraged them to keep officiating as there are many opportunities for female officials at the national and international levels of hockey.
We then went to the top of the Coliseum to meet with Jeff Bradley, the Video Goal Judge. He showed us a video from the previous game and spoke about how he analyses the video replays to make a decision about a goal. For the first period we had a birds' eye view of the game from the old press box. Topping the evening off was a decisive win by the Giants of 8 to 4 against the Portland Winterhawks. Don Hay, Head Coach, and Brendan Gallagher (who scored a Hat Trick) had just returned from their Team Canada Bronze Medal win at the World Juniors.

Vancouver Girls Ice Hockey New Level 1 & 2 Officiating Clinic
Vancouver Girls Ice Hockey hosted a New Level 1 and New Level 2 Officiating Clinic on Sunday, 18 September 2011, at the Killarney Rink. We were very fortunate to have our local Referee Committee Member, Al White, and his son Alex provide the off and on-ice training. The Angels refs welcomed members of Van Minor and Thunderbirds to our clinic.
Officials Stand on Guard Contest - Januray 17, 2012
Two of our officials out of the 10 minor hockey officials and players were selected from the province-wide BC Hockey Stand on Guard contest. Each contestant won2 tickets to the Vancouver Canucks vs Los Angeles KIngs game.
Before the pre-game ceremonies they skated on the ice with the Canucks and during the singing of the National Anthems stood with the NHL officials at centre ice.

Here's one of our Angels referees who was chosen for the BC Hockey Stand on Guard contest and won 2 tickets to a Vancouver Canucks game and was on the ice with the Canucks during the National Anthem.
Officials Night at Rogers Arena - December 21, 2011
One of our referees wrote a winning essay on this year's topic :The Vancouver Canucks have recognized Courage, Honor, Humility, Integrity and Passion as the core values that together create the “Heart of a Canuck”. Using this theme, please describe how any three (3) of the above values have applied in your officiating career thus far. Please devote one (1) paragraph to each value.
Before the game, the officials for the game met with the contest winners and, after talking about their paths to becoming a NHL referee, answered a few questions the younger refs had to ask. The evening ended happily (for us) with a 4-2 win against the Detroit Redwings. Read more.
Officials Night at Rogers Arena - March 18, 2011
Two of our Angels referees were selected along with 7 other young referees from around the province for their essay submission to BC Hockey on ‘What the BC Hockey Officiating Program could do to ensure referees stay involved in the game’. They won two tickets each to attend the Vancouver Canucks game on March 18th. In addition to the tickets, they met with Rob Fryer, BC Hockey’s Branch Coordinator Referee-in-Chief, and Willy Saari, BC Hockey’s Branch Female Officiating Coordinator. Prior to the game the NHL referees and linesmen came and chatted with the winners and their parents which ended with getting their autographs and having photos with them. Read more.
